Tilson, HR Management Company, Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

GREENWOOD (SEPTEMBER 8, 2020) – Tilson has reached an exciting milestone as it celebrated Saturday, September 5th its 25th anniversary as a national provider of HR and workforce management solutions to businesses.

Founded in 1995, the professional employer organization (PEO) helps companies in 48 states manage payroll, benefits, HR, regulatory compliance, and other employment-related services, thus allowing them to focus on their business.

Brent R. Tilson, Tilson founder and president, reflected on the company’s 25th anniversary by saying, “This is an incredible milestone for us. It has been through the hard work, preparedness, and relentless pursuit of excellence by our team players that we have come to this achievement. Our founding values remain a top priority today and are indicative of our continued growth and excellence. We are taking this year as an opportunity to go slow and truly understand how our company is performing today and create a roadmap for the future. A huge thanks to all current and former customers, employees and partners who have enabled us to get to where we are today.”

Brent owned a small CPA firm and founded Tilson after his clients started to ask him to handle more diverse employee services. At the time, this type of business was unheard of, with the PEO industry still in its infancy. The business idea took off, however, and today both Tilson and its clients are experiencing continued growth. Industry studies have shown businesses that use PEOs grow faster, have lower turnover, and are less likely to go out of business.

Tilson has netted numerous awards and recognitions for its high growth and success. By 2003, the company had been recognized for three consecutive years by Inc. magazine as one of the 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in the nation, including ranking 11th in 2001, the highest ranking for an Indiana-based company that year. Brent was a three-time Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, and made the 2000 class of IBJ’s “40 Under 40”.

In 2008, Tilson moved into its new 20,000-square-foot corporate headquarters – and Tilson Conference Center – in Greenwood, Indiana. As part of Tilson’s expansion, the company acquired another competitor based in Phoenix, Arizona in 2012.

Backed by his company’s experience helping hundreds of businesses navigate the complicated organizational issues they face throughout their life cycle, Brent was invited in 2018 to publish a new book with ForbesBooks called Go Slow to Grow Fast: Keeping Your Company Driving and Thriving in a Fast-Paced, Competitive Business World.

Today, Tilson acts as a champion for small businesses and entrepreneurs on a local and national scale. During his tenure as chairman of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO), Brent was at the helm for the watershed passage of federal legislation for the industry, and most recently worked closely with legislators on important issues for PEOs and their client businesses as the CARES Act was being written in the Senate.

The company also recently hosted the Greenwood community Fourth of July fireworks in dedication to the residents, who have fought the coronavirus pandemic together, and to celebrate ongoing independence.
