Tilson Update: Identity Theft Prevention

Tilson | December 2019

I will never forget the first time that I had something stolen from me. I had left my favorite orange North Face backpack in my car as I joined friends for a quick meal. When I came back an hour later, the backpack was gone and in its place were the shards of glass from my passenger window. It was a miserable feeling and a tough lesson-learned: be vigilant against opportunists.

Being in the PEO industry, theft is something that Tilson is highly vigilant about. We utilize standard practices such as verifying SSNs during phone calls, using encrypted email communication, and sometimes even disappointing clients by refusing to send out W2s via email. The following are key security initiatives that Tilson is putting into place over the next year to further safeguard you from cybersecurity threats.

01 Two-Factor Authentication

Tilson will be implementing a two-factor authentication for each time users log in to their portal. During the login process, users will be sent a security code, at which point they will be prompted to use the code to gain access to the portal. For this reason, it is vitally important that all users have an up-to-date email address on file. If you need assistance with updating your contact information, please reach out to your Tilson Service Team.

02 Verification Notices

Tilson will issue verification emails for various employee information changes, including address changes and direct deposit updates. As of January 1, 2020, Tilson will trigger email notifications to employees when the account number or routing number of their direct deposit information is changed, or when additional accounts are added. These notifications will inform them of the changes and advise them to contact Tilson if the change was fraudulent.

03 Phishing Emails Preventative Measures

Tilson will continue to take preventative measures to monitor, combat and prevent phishing email attempts, which are used to lure email recipients into divulging personal information or other forms of malintent. On the signature line of Tilson emails, you will start to see the following Security Notice: “Emails from Tilson will never contain requests for passwords, personal information, or financial data. Access the online HR portal directly through the website page; Tilson will never ask you to sign-in through a provided link. Please call 317-885-3838 if you have questions or concerns.” This will be one more way in which we can continue to be a consummate partner in the fight to protect your private information. In addition to this, please note that we will never ask for your login information or require you to login to an outside source such as Google Docs, Etherpad, G Suite, or any other document sharing software.

It is our mission to provide you with an ease of mind, knowing that your HR needs are in trusted and capable hands. Your security is a focal point for Tilson. If you have any questions about preventive security measures, please feel free to reach out to your Tilson Service Team.
